Star Wars Miniatures Terrain
Overview
While I am still figuring out whether I want articles to be HTML, php, or some sort of blog post, I need to go ahead and start formalizing some of my ideas about some Star Wars Miniatures terrain projects that I'd like to start soon. Essentially my main gaming partner, Harry, and I dislike playing on 2d paper mats. Maybe I'm not imaginative enough, but more likely I delight in seeing 3D worlds in miniature. So I want to create some themed terrain for use at home, at any small gaming conventions, and possibly with the school club.
The Projects
Tatooine: Mos Eisley
I want to do a Mos Eisley city build. I will probably make it out of WorldWorks paper terrain. Harry possibly already has something like this going on, so I need to see what he has built (I know he mentioned having a fully detailed cantina of sorts). Besides the West End Mos Eisley book(if I still have it), I can use the Lego Star Wars II, Battlefront II, and Phantom Menace (for PS1) Playstation games for references. The cantina is actually not super-important to me. I just want a recognizable play environment. Yep, there are some Jawas, a landspeeder, and some Banthas.
Besides having Rebels vs. Empire sort of games there, I could have a Tusken Raider assault on the city.
Tatooine: Saarlac Pit
Additionally I'd love to have a Saarlac Pitt with some skiffs to play around with. A re-enactment of Return of the Jedi would be awesome. This would not be a paper terrain project. Instead I'd probably use 6" or more of stacked foam to create some depth for the pit. I'd also need some skiffs. Prices for those aren't cheap, so I might have to improvise/kitbash some. Again, I could use some Playstation games (as well as the movie) for reference.
Hoth
This is THE Star Wars minis terrain project I'd really like to see realized. I would like to have a very large mega-battle sized Hoth setup. It's my favorite part of Empire Strikes Back. I may not ever buy a Wampa for $15+ or Probe Droid, but I have the Battle for Hoth set, and I would love to have some AT-AT and AT-ST action against some snowspeeders and Atgar Cannons and turrets. IF the board could double for 40k, WarMachine, or Dark Age, so much the better. I could have sections, like a shield generator section, hangar launch area section, and so on.
I'd go full foam on this one too. I want real trenches with depth to them and would abandon the SW minis rules for the big battle. I will need to get an AT-AT too (or two).
Endor
The only other SW Minis project I have in mind is an Endor setup. I'd like to have the bunker leading to the shield generator. If I get the AT-AT for Hoth, I'll already have it, plus two AT-STs. I'd need some speeder bikes and Ewoks and so on. I'm thinking of doing the bunker in Hirst Arts with a fully-detailed interior. I'd use the Lego SW game for the floor plans.
This one would probably be the hardest to do, because the trees are of such size that they'd really be abstract round cylinders. Here my personality really comes into play, because I'd not be happy with just brown irregular shapes. I want to instantly believe that this is Endor (or Endor's forest moon. Let me explain and go off on a tangent. It's always naggled me that Ackbar or Mon Mothma or whoever is giving the report talks about the "forest moon of Endor". Are they saying that Endor is the forest moon? Or are they referring to a forested moon revolving around Endor? The answer is out there, but the language is ambiguous.)
